Using Revit Structure/AutoCAD for Building Information Modeling-BIM

Saturday, November 19th, 2011

Structural engineering companies using Revit Structure software can effectively manage their design and documentation with the architect – controlling digital representations from multiple design sources, especially AutoCAD and AutoCAD Architecture software. With the wide acceptance of AutoCAD and over 300,000 users across the world, structural drafters/engineers will find several opportunities to utilize Revit Structure to collaborate with architects using the intelligent building objects (in DWG format)from AutoCAD Architecture.

One critical part of a structural engineer’s job to share design data and information with the rest of design team together with the architect. To fulfill this requirement, Revit Structure provides a variety of collaboration modes such as:

  1. Exporting/Importing standard CAD files (such as DWG, DGN, DXF)
  2. Linking of files to/from AutoCAD Architecture
  3. Linking completely to an existing Revit Architecture building model

The most obvious starting point for any structural engineer is 2D CAD files provided by the architect. Any CAD software/system that supports DWG, DGN, DXF formats can work efficiently with Revit Structure. Revit structure allows engineer to link and import DWG, DGN, DXF files directly into Revit Structure. If the 2D CAD file is linked while being imported, it stays within Revit Structure as a set and can be refreshed if the architect provides an updated version. Imported geometry can be converted directly to generate new structural members. Revit Structure has the ability to export these same 2D CAD formats – not only because this is the format often needed to pass on to the rest of the design team, but also some contractors demand the delivery of digital documentation in these formats. Revit structure can provide DWG deliverables just as AutoCAD software can, creating layered and well-organized DWG files using any industry standard the engineer wants.

Revit Structure and AutoCAD Architecture have remarkably solid integration, allowing additional benefits to structural and architectural firms using these systems together. Usually the structural engineer will begin the design process using the 2D CAD files and if required can also import the AutoCAD architectural model straight into Revit Structure, using the architect’s model for design reference. And for better co-ordination with architects and rest of the team, Revit Structure exports structural members as intelligent building objects resident to AutoCAD Architecture. So a full structural model can be shared directly with the architect using AutoCAD Architecture – allowing the architect to examine structural design inside the architectural model and test for possible clash with architectural components directly inside AutoCAD Architecture.

The use of building information model (BIM) provides structural companies a complete modeling environment for evaluation and documentation – so that structural design and documentation are always coordinated, uniform and all-inclusive. Sharing the structural details of building information model with architects further coordinates the building design and documentation – a wining combination for all stake-holders participating in the building design and construction process.

Meeting People in Business Has to Be Done Right

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

Understanding the way people connect and communicate can lead to a 500% increase in the number of clients and contacts you gain.

We have all been there. We have had to kiss a lot of frogs to get to our prince and we have all been rejected in the past, which is a good thing, otherwise, there wouldn’t be enough hours in the day to fit all the pointless meetings and unavoidable polite conversations.

However, there are ways to minimize the amount of frog kissing and heart sinking rejections you must go through in business, and this is by following the Golden Rule of Communication: Treat others in the way you would like to be treated.

Almost anyone you ask about how they would like to make business contacts, will answer that they want it to be interesting, exciting and fun, and that is a good way to start.

Something is interesting when we learn new things about something that catches our attention. Something is exciting when it promises new adventures, ideas and discoveries. Something is fun when it makes us feel good, makes us smile and offers great company. This is the way to do business; this is the way it works when our foundation is the Golden Rule.

And, how do we build up on this rule? Very easily, ask yourself what are you doing there. Establish that you are in the right place in order to understand the people around you. We all understand that in any given situation, there are some people who are searching to fill a current need; some are searching for the next few months, some for the next two years, and some are not searching at all.

In business, the percentages established for each of these categories are helpful:

3-5% are searching to fill a current need

10-15% are searching for the next few months

40-50% are searching for the next two years

30-40% are not searching at all

This means that in any given situation, there is a 10-15% of people that are immediate potential customers, and over two years that percentage goes up to 50-75% thus, by meeting people in the right way and staying in touch, you could increase your business and contacts by 500%.

Most of us want someone to be interested in what interests us, to be listened to, to be injected with positive energy, to be given the space we need, and to have good information and help when needed. With this in mind, every time you meet people in business, ask what they do and how you can help them. Get to know each other deeply and look for ways to help each other. Once you have established this, it is a win-win situation; keep in touch and start making good business!

The Impact of a Vertical Search Engine on the Search for Health care Jobs

Friday, June 25th, 2010

A vertical search for health care jobs is useful to someone who knows exactly what they are looking for. Vertical search engines only gather sites from the internet providing information on a predefined topic. Health care employment is a topic of real relevance to the estimated over 8 million job seekers searching the internet monthly for work. A vertical search for health care jobs operates on a basic premise- it only pulls sites for its search results that have the requested health care jobs. Broad search engines crawl all sites to find information on a topic. Vertical search engines have specific criteria for the sites that they look for, such as health care jobs.

Using a broad search engine is like looking in a general phone book for a phone number. Maybe you’ll get lucky and find the number quickly or maybe the company wasn’t listed where you thought it was. Maybe it wasn’t grouped with other companies as you expected it to be. So you end up guessing where to find a company’s number and how it was listed. A vertical search engine is like looking in a specific directory for a given topic that shows only the companies that offer the services you are looking for. You get some satisfaction knowing you are searching in the right place and that all the companies in the directory are relevant. By using vertical search engines, you should be able to retrieve more information faster and the search results may be more applicable. Vertical search engines are focused on making internet searches more productive and useful to those who depend on real time information.

The first vertical search engine of its kind to hit the US job market, JobJobHealth.com lists only the latest health care positions. Jobseekers do a simple search to access all medical jobs from a variety of sources on the internet. Jobs are pulled from health care employers, leading job boards, health care associations and online newspapers. They are listed organically and in real time. Jobseekers perform simple searches by company, location, job title or keyword. Advanced searches limit results by date posted and location radius. Jobseekers can save and organize their search results. They have the ability to receive customized job alerts to a designated e mail. These alerts notify a jobseeker of all new positions that match a given keyword. Most importantly, the vertical search engine gives them access to all medical jobs with a simple search.

Vertical search engines like JobJobHealth.com are changing the existing paradigm for job boards. Employers no longer have to pay to post their jobs. They simply link to the search engine with a feed, enabling a crawler to pull new jobs in real time. In the case of JobJobHealth.com, jobseekers instantly have access to the most complete overview of health care jobs in one place. Because traffic to a vertical search engine is the target market, health care companies see it as a good place to advertise. A vertical search engine brings together all interested parties to one site. For JobJobHealth.com, that means everyone involved with health care employment. Vertical searching empowers us with precision and helps us find our way through a sea of internet information.

Affiliate Marketing vs Network Marketing

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Affiliate Marketing vs Network Marketing – Are they the same? Or do they have any differences? Many people tends to get confused between the two, or think that they are of the same thing.

To start off, let me first give you the definition between the two (extracted from Wikipedia):

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is a marketing practice in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate’s marketing efforts. Examples include rewards sites, where users are rewarded with cash or gifts, for the completion of an offer, and the referral of others to the site.

Network Marketing

Multi-level marketing (MLM), (also called network marketing, direct selling, referral marketing, and pyramid selling) is a term that describes a marketing structure used by some companies as part of their overall marketing strategy. The structure is designed to create a marketing and sales force by compensating promoters of the company’s products not only for sales they personally generate, but also for the sales of other promoters they introduce to the company, creating a downline of distributors and a hierarchy of multiple levels of compensation in the form of a pyramid.

What I’m going to share with you in this post are the similarities, as well as differences, between affiliate marketing and network marketing:

1. Commissions

In affiliate marketing, you work directly with the merchant and you’ll get paid whenever someone purchases the products and/or services you recommend from your unique affiliate link (which is used by the merchants to identify which affiliate generated the sale, thereby allowing him/her to pay the affiliate accordingly).

However, in Network Marketing, you work not only with the merchant, but also with the person that’s immediately above you in the network hierarchy. You’ll get paid whenever someone purchases the products and/or services from you. Not only that, you’ll also receive a cut of the commissions generated by your downlines (meaning those that are under you in the network hierarchy).

2. Training

In affiliate marketing, you are not responsible in training other marketers to promote the merchant’s products and/or services – It’s the merchant’s responsibility to provide affiliates with the information necessary to promote his/her products and/or services.

However, in network marketing, in order for you to be able to generate more income from your downlines (which is where most of your income should come from), you need to help them with their marketing efforts.

3. Recurring Payments

As far as affiliate marketing is concerned, most of the products that you promote are single payment products (where you’ll only receive one-time commission for every sale you refer), unless you are promoting membership sites where, in order for one to remain as a member, he/she is required to pay membership fees on an ongoing basis.

With network marketing, as most of these products require people to buy again and again (such as vitamin pills, weight loss products, skin care products, etc.), you’ll receive commissions from your customers over and over again (as long as they keep on purchasing these products).

4. Cost To Signup

In affiliate marketing, there’s no need for you to pay to sign up as an affiliate for the merchants (I know there’s a very small minority of merchants that requires you to pay a sign up fee to be their affiliate – I would advise you to move on and promote for other merchants that allow you to promote their products for free instead).

However, in network marketing, you will need to pay a cost to join their company – Where you’ll get their “Starter Kit” with product information, as well as other company information that you need.

5. Marketing Techniques

As far as marketing techniques are concerned, you can use the same techniques to promote products and services for both affiliate marketing, as well as network marketing.

6. Monetization Potential

Both networks, in my opinion, are great potentials for you to generate a substantial income from, as long as you follow proven step-by-step instructions.

I hope that with this article, you now have a clearer understanding of both affiliate, as well as network marketing, along with the similarities and differences between each of them.

My highest recommendation for small business home based internet marketing strategy is to provide great unique articles to your niche markets – Burn Your Hot Niche Markets through Great Articles!

From Overture, a keyword suggestion tool, you will see the millions of searches done to a certain keyword. When these keywords are typed on search boxes of search engines, indexed websites containing articles with those keywords will be displayed. And this is what leads traffic to websites with keyword-rich articles. Yes, the magic word is articles. Those articles give you a lot of free easy ways to make money online. You can use those articles in several ways to earn money easy at home.

Remember, high quality & well written content is the king! You can say that again. That is why writing articles is one of the most utilized home based internet marketing business media & free easy ways to make money online today. Internet surfers just can’t get enough of information on various fields. Providing information or great content through these articles is a surefire way to drive hot traffic to your web site & one of most effective free easy ways to make money online.

Why is this so? Here are the benefits that writing articles can give your home based internet marketing business. You’ll discover how article marketing can burn your hot niche markets & how you can discover a lot of free easy ways to make money online with your articles below:

1. It is absolutely free – You just spend your time for writing your articles. Writing your own articles is one of extremely powerful free easy ways to make money online.

Is it too good to be true? Not. Okay, you have to pay for your Internet Service Provider. That’s it. All you need is your thoughts, your computer or laptop, and your hands. If you have those, nothing will stop you from typing words that will make you complete that article for your website. On which aspect of that process did you really shell out any cent? It is maybe later when the electric bills come.

2. Your website will be noticed in a short period of time – All search engines love fresh & update content.

Submit that high quality & well written article of yours to article directories with a high Google Page Rank that get the most web traffics and in no time your web site will be crawled. That is if you don’t forget including your resource box or byline.

3. Obtain back links automatically – Increase your link popularity in your resource/author box. It is absolutely brilliant idea to put your links into your resource properly. It can drive you a lot of traffic. This is one of technique free easy ways to make money online with your article.

When you submit your articles to directories, surely, other websites will make use of your article too. With the copyright terms of your articles, the URL of your website will still be in tact and will subsequently direct more traffic to your website.

4. Improve your reputation – Also, you will increase your creditability and reliability. Of course, your reputation will be improved dramatically with your articles. This is one of my favorite free easy ways to make money online & increase my reputation in my specified markets.

As an Internet marketer, if you plainly display your products on your website, you will not gain much conversion rate. Conversion is when your traffic converts to sales. You have to show that you are knowledgeable on your field. And what better way to show that than by writing articles that will allow you some bragging rights, right?

Just make your creative juices flow and jot down or key in those ideas quickly to jumpstart your article writing momentum. With those benefits listed above, a writer’s block is the last problem you will ever be able to surmount.

Conclusion, I am sure that article marketing is one of the most effective free easy ways to make money online from home. However, my investigations show that so many internet marketers want to save their time. They don’t want to spend a lot of time to write high quality & professional well written articles. Thus, one of free easy ways to make money online with writing articles is to purchase private label rights articles. That’s why PLR articles are the most popular in the industry today. Those PLR articles will save you a ton of your time and they give you a high quality & well written professionally. Also, you can do anything you want with those articles with full private label rights.

Affiliate Marketing Programs Can Make Money For You

Affiliate Marketing Programs Can Make Money For You

Why and How of Affiliate Marketing Programs

Just as in referral marketing, Affiliate marketing is earning money by recommending products and services to others. You earn a percentage of the sale when your visitors buy those items you are recommending. Affiliate marketing is a proven money-making model you can focus on for your business and is still, the number one way for aspiring Internet entrepreneurs to get started. The benefits of affiliate marketing programs are:

1. There’s no inventory expense

2. No hassles with payment processors

3. No extra time spent on processing refunds or returns

All these are carried out by the affiliate program owner. Your job as an affiliate is to recommend the products to your website visitors and cash your money when they buy. However, you still need to get the necessary marketing skills that will bring success in any other business you pursue.

The Three Affiliate Marketing Programs Models

There are three types of profitable Affiliate Marketing models: Pay-Per-Sale (PPS), Pay-Per-Lead (PPL) and Pay-Per-Click (PPC). The first thing to understand about affiliate marketing is that it is a “pay per action” model. However, the meaning of “action” is defined in a couple of different ways. An action can be:

1. The sale of a product

2. The generation of a new lead (potential customers)

3. The clicking through of a link (e.g. Google AdSense ads link)

1. Pay-Per-Sale Program

In Pay-per-sale program, you, the affiliate, are tasked with sending traffic (website visitors) to the merchant website in order to help the merchant acquire new customers. Whenever one of the visitors you refer buys a product from that merchant, you are credited with the sale and you receive a commission. This is where your profits come from.

2. Pay-Per-Lead Program

In pay-per-lead program, you generate commission by generating leads (potential customers). Instead of referring people directly to a product, you refer them to product information. E.g.:

•           Refer a prospect to mortgage Refinance Company, where he fills out a form to get pre-qualifying information about potential loans.

•           Refer a prospect to Health Company offering free vitamin samples in exchange for filling out contact form.

•           Refer a prospect to a trial version of a product or service.

3. Pay-per-Click Program

Unlike the previous two models, pay-per-click affiliate marketing is actually the simplest but incentives for your visitors to click on the links are more difficult to provide. Most advertising programs (such as Google AdSense) fall under this category. There are many ways of selling advertising space on a blog or website but some of the different advertising options include AdSense and YPN (Yahoo Publishing Network), which are very popular with bloggers or many website owners and are probably the most common income streams being used by them today.

These programs can easily be implemented and used to make a six figure income. However, you require detailed information to make them work.

Ecommerce SEO Tips

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

According to Nielsen net ratings, every month, about half of all search engine queries are unique. This statistic, although vague and seemingly insignificant, is actually the greatest factor behind why eCommerce Soltuions fare so well in search. We interpret the statistic like this: Half of all searches cannot be predicted, the other half can be.

Great. So what does that have to do with eCommerce? The reason why eCommerce and SEO are better for each other than Forrest was for Jenny is due to the massive amount of content contained within the average eCommerce solution and that content’s ability to target both predictable and unpredictable (long-tail) search phrases.

eCommerce solutions have a major advantage over any other database driven site for a number of reasons.

Abundant Content: Unlike a blog, article directory or content managed site, thousands of search engine friendly pages can be literally uploaded and indexed by the search engines.
Easy Unique Content: A product or category page needs a few tech specs and a brief description. As long as that content is unique to the site, a webmaster can litter the search engines with products and categories. The time it would take for a blog or content managed site to reach that same level using unique content is staggering.
Targeting the Predictable & Unpredictable: Category pages can be targeted for predictable searches like “red widgets.” Product pages can capture the unpredictable ones like “red widgets with tassels”(provided they contain keyword-rich descriptions).

So how can you make the most of your eCommerce solution in the search engines? As promised here is a list of 25 general tips.

Most Importantly:

Pick the right solution: Get an eCommerce provider that allows you to do everything we mention in this list. And hey, what do you know? Bridgeline’s eCommerce Solution lets you do all of this… Crazy how that works out, no?

Onsite Optimization Tips

Unique title tags: The content contained within should not be repeated verbatim within the site.
Put your site name after the product or category name in the title tag: Use your site to Brand, use your search engine listing to get clicks.
Unique meta data: Take the time to make your meta data (description & keywords) unique for each page. Obviously, that can be tricky if you have 10,000 skus, so try and get your developer to populate that area with the product description.
Use H1 tags: And put your keywords in them. Go to your source. Search for ‘
Use more than manufacturer data: If your product pages only contain the specs and descriptions that your manufacturer provides, the search engines will lump that product page together with the hundreds of other ones out there with the same specs and descriptions, meaning it won’t find its way into the search engine result pages (SERPS).
Take the time to add unique copy to your product and category pages
Link to other products and categories from that copy
Use alt tags: I know. I heard too. They’re useless. Use them anyway. SEO is about a conglomeration of variables, not a single supreme one.
Have a clear category tree: Search engines like that.
Use a search engine friendly navigation: Text links are best. Don’t like text and want to use images? Make sure you use alt tags. Using flash or doing postbacks? Stop that!
Create an XML based sitemap and put it in Google webmaster tools

Offsite Optimization (Link Building) Tips

Link building is incredibly difficult for eCommerce sites because no one wants to link to your drop shipping site when they can link to the real thing or Target.com. Here is what you need to know:

Build domain authority: Domain authority is basically a measure of the number of high quality sites linking to yours. The more the better. So how do you get those?
Buy them: The quickest, easiest way to get Domain authority is to buy it at Text-Link-Ads.com. Unfortunately, it ain’t cheap.
Take your nique products and promote them in the online community: Get out into the online community, target some top bloggers in or around your industry and try to get them talking about your unique product. Again, this doesn’t really work for drop shippers because no one is going to link to your site when there are more reputable ones out there to link to so…
Put Something On Your site worth linking to: Compile a great list of resources, make how-to videos, develop a calculator, or other custom tool. If your products aren’t unique and link-friendly, you’ll need some site content that is.
Submit to directories: If you go to the forums they’ll tell you to submit to hundreds or thousands of directories. Don’t. Those are not high quality links, they don’t transmit domain authority, and they’ll only waste your time… What you need to do is find lists that bloggers or independent webmasters have made. If you must, submit to the directories, but be certain they are specific to your industry.
Submit articles: Again, the forums will tell you to submit as many articles as humanly possible. What I’m telling you is this:

Write 3-5 quality articles on topics that people are talking about in your industry (like what I’m doing here).
Submit the articles to a bunch of article directories.
Link to those articles from your homepage.
Link to your homepage from those articles
Link Sculpt: Place a nofollow tag on any link that doesn’t point back to your homepage.
Go to relevant blogs and forums where topics pertaining to those articles are being discussed, and drop links back to them.

Link exchanges: Despite popular opinion, still work… just don’t go overboard.
Deep link: Meaning, repeat 1-6 for your major categories.
