Eco-Friendly Bags: A Convenient Option When Shopping

Friday, December 2nd, 2011

In recent years, the world has become a much more environmentally conscious place. This is due to research showing the negative impact of such conditions as global warming, diminishing natural resources, and the widespread destruction of our natural environment. Now, individuals and companies are looking for ways to create a much more environmentally friendly world. One way retailers and individuals are helping the planet and its resources are replacing traditional plastic shopping bags with eco-friendly bags.

Reusable eco-friendly bags are a convenient and environmentally friendly option when shopping. According to the Food Marketing Institute, “the average American walks away from the grocery store with 5 to 10 bags each trip. This adds up to 600 – 1 200 bags per year.” The Australian Government in 2002 identified “that if a consumer used reusable bags for 1 year they would consume only 9% of the energy and produce only 10% of the greenhouse emission of plastic bags.” As well, according to the American Forest and Paper Association, “In 1999, the U.S. alone used 10 billion paper grocery bags.” This is a huge amount of trees being destroyed.

The best alternative when shopping is using eco-friendly reusable bags. These bags are available in many forms and sizes to meet every shopper’s needs. Sizes can range from a small tote bag to extra large bags, allowing shoppers to carry a wide range of items. They are also available in a variety of designs and colors. It is a cost effective method of shopping and convenient because all that one has to do is return the bags to their vehicle when they have finished using them.

Quality eco-friendly bags are made of materials that do not harm the environment during their production. They are biodegradable so there are no damaging chemicals in the bags. You will not have to worry about leaving a negative impact on the environment. Many of these bags are made of 100% durable cotton with strong reinforced straps. As well, the canvas shopping reusable bags provide an easy and cost-efficient way of reducing your impact on the environment. The best part is they do not have to be thrown away after use.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, “more than 380 billion plastic bags are used in the United States every year. Of those, approximately 100 billion are plastic shopping bags, which cost retailers about $4 billion annually.” The production of plastic bags eats up millions of gallons of oil and manufacturing paper bags has a devastating effect on the forests. As well, it can take up to a thousand years to break down while toxins from the bags leak into the ground and contaminate the environment. Fortunately, there are many online and traditional stores that offer a broad range of eco-friendly reusable bags. Prices vary so you will find bags within your budget and meet your shopping needs. Using eco-friendly reusable bags is a convenient, cost-cutting, and environmentally friendly way of shopping. It is no longer a “paper or plastic” shopping experience. Now, we can say, “No thank you, I have my own eco-friendly reusable bag.

Microsoft Dynamics GP Shopping Cart Integration in B2B and B2C ecommerce scenarios

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

If you already have eCommerce website with democratic ecommerce shopping cart platforms, such as ASP .Net Store Front, or Magento/PHP in Business-to-Business or Business-to-Customer models, we would like to infect you highlights on shopping cart integration to Microsoft Dynamics GP or Great Plains, how this mid-market Corporate ERP application was known initially.  First of all, we would like to stress, that in our believe popular ecommerce shopping cart platforms have quite a large number of installations in USA and internationally (they are pretty solid with most of the bugs detected and fixed with direct customer support from the original software development companies) and we discourage you to do custom shopping cart programming.  We also believe that customers with existing ecommerce netting application do not like the idea to trash the ecommerce website and redeploy it on another product base – we respect that position and we would like to help you on getting existing ecommerce locating integrating with your ERP application, in our example it is Microsoft Dynamics GP:

1. Where shopping cart travelling in Dynamics GP?  The most natural way is to transform shopping cart into Sales Order Processing Sales Order or Invoice.  If you are mid-market or large ecommerce wholesaler (B2B) or retailer (B2C), we recommend you to select SOP type for ecommerce integration with manual line items allocation, as you would likely need to fulfill the Order on the warehouse floor with Picking and Packing with Barcode scanning, please see Warehouse Management System section below on details.  If you are selling with full or partial prepayment (customer credit card) – it is Customer Deposit against Sales Document

2. eCommerce module from Alba Spectrum.  Here you have wizard driven installation and setup, our goal is to open ecommerce integration for you in the matter of few hours, where you pick ecommerce shopping cart platform from drop pop list, choosing default ecommerce warehouse, SOP Type and reasonable number of additional settings.  Ideal solution for B2C ecommerce, in B2B scenario you need more control over Customer specific discounts and price – we have features in the integration for B2B as well, but you may expect additional programming and modifications

3. Alternative low budget way of eCommerce integration.  If the number of ecommerce transactions per day is low or moderate (let’s say less than twenty or even one hundred) and ecommerce customer doesn’t need immediate access to the order status, we suggest you to consider ecommerce shopping cart integration to Dynamics GP in Quasi real time (every hour or another small time interval).  If this is acceptable in your ecommerce B2B or B2C trade – consider doing shopping cart integration to SOP Sales Document via Great Plains Integration Manager.  We have case study when computer parts ecommerce retailer deployed IM with custom PHP/MySQL based shopping cart to fire every 5 minutes, where Integration was called by one of the scheduled freeware Windows macro type of programs.  If you do integration manager, we can call us for help, and if you do it on your own, we recommend you to consider IM Source to be chosen as Advanced ODBC, where you can pull transactions directly from ecommerce website database (you are not limited to Microsoft SQL Server, MS Access, XML or Text file – Advanced ODBC is possible in cross-platform scenarios, where shopping cart data resides in Oracle, Ingress, IBM DBII, Lotus Notes, Pervasive SQL, Ctree, MySQL and other ODBC open DB platform)

4. Warehouse Management System add-on for Dynamics GP.  WMS opens Dynamics GP Sales Order Processing, Purchase Order Processing and Inventory Control (with additional components also Bill of Materials and Manufacturing Suite of modules) for Barcoding technology.  Typical Warehouse Management System business logic includes Customer Order Fulfillment, Inventory Restocking and Inventory Transfers and Adjustments (including also Cycle Count, which is in essence mass adjustment).  Alba Spectrum WMS has Server and Client components.  WMS client runs directly on your Barcode scanner operating system and LCD screen.  The client talks to WMS Server via wireless connection or RFID to pull info about existing Sales Orders/Invoices, POP Purchase Receipts and Inventory transactions.  WMS Server is typically Windows computer, connected to your wired network (Level 5 Ethernet cable, Fiber Optic or even wireless, if the WMS transaction level is low) and talks to Dynamics GP DB Server via ODBC connection

5. Second Opinion on failed Dynamics GP implementations, ecommerce integrations, Warehouse management Systems and other Barcoding technology based projects.  We are Dynamics GP, eCommerce and Barcode scanning people.  If somebody from Great Plains resellers community screwed the implementation, please be patient, do not burst out in blaming, seek for second opinion.  As our experience indicates, failures might be attributed to too aggressive telemarketing sales techniques, where local or regional Dynamics GP Partner tries to push through GP software licenses sale (given you “of course” answering on industry specific questions).  Please, do your homework and check references, be sure your prospective Dynamics GP VAR or ISV has your industry expertise, or sufficient exposure to such technologies as Dexterity, eConnect, Integration Manager, VBA with Modifier, SSRS, Crystal Reports

6. eCommerce for Legacy versions of Great Plains Dynamics and eEnterprise.  If you are committed to older no longer supported version of GP, such as 8., 7.5, 7., 6., 5.5, 5., 4. we urged you either to review Integration  Manager route (if you are on old version, chances are high that ecommerce transaction level is moderate or low – IM is covering Microsoft SQL Server 2008, 2005, 2000, 7., 65. As well as Pervasive SQL 2000 and Ctree based Great Plains versions) or upgrade to the current version of Dynamics GP 2010 (sometimes referred as version 11.), if you think that business is picking up and you are ready to allocate Great Plains Upgrade Budget.  If you are still on Great Plains Accounting for DOS, Windows or Mac: 9.5, 9.2, 9.1 or earlier versions we would like to discourage to invest in ecommerce integration for this archaic Corporate ERP platform – consider upgrading all the way to Dynamics GP 2010/11.  We do not want you to do Software investments into the ERP which is only compatible with 32-bit platform

7. How to get further info?  Please, call us 1-866-529-0577 or internationally 1-630-961-5918 or email us help@albaspectrum.com  If you have specific requirements, we encourage you to submit your case via email – we will try to answer with case studies and recommendations.  The nature of our servicing module let us to serve you with ecommerce, warehouse Management System and generic Dynamics GP support USA, Canada nationwide and internationally via Sales presentations via Web Sessions and Phone (or Skype if internationally) conferences.  If required we travel onsite for sign implementation, especially when hardware setup is required (Barcode Scanner, WMS Server Computer installation, etc.) with following remote support.  We also carry Great Plains Dexterity Software Development Factory and ready for Dynamics GP customization projects from small ones to the Dex projects with unlimited scope.  Local walk-in consulting service is available in Michigan, Illinois, California, Texas

Dynamics GP Ecommerce Shopping Cart Transfer to SOP Document

Monday, March 21st, 2011

If you are using Dynamics GP (or even its older version, when it was known as Great Plains Dynamics) and now you are thinking about exposing this Corporate ERP application to ecommerce shopping cart interface, you probably want shopping cart to be transformed into Sales Order Processing document.  SOP transaction could be either Invoice (with Credit Card deposits, in B2C ecommerce scenario), Return, Sales Order (where you would like to control fulfillment in separate process, probably in Warehouse Management System) or even Quote (useful in B2B ecommerce scenario, when you sell on account and you would like your customers to be able to configure the Quote with their price levels, possible bundles with additional discounts, etc.).  Well, you may say, these mappings look absolutely natural and great to me, but how they could be realized or programmed? And by the way – we have existing ecommerce website, which we coded in-house with our IT programmers – we would like to preserve this ecommerce web application.  Let’s try to look at your options:

1. Real-time, Quasi real-time and scheduled integrations.  We recommend you to review this “theoretical” question first, as the answer might save you a lot of software development or ecommerce product software licensing money.  What is real-time ecommerce shopping cart integration? –this is when customer submits the order, the SOP document shows up in the Dynamics GP at the same moment (with reasonable delay for your Server to run real time integration code, maybe one or two seconds).  Is real time important?  The answer depends.  Let’s say, you have several thousand transactions per hour (meaning that your ecommerce page submits maybe one transaction in the matter of few seconds), and order processing time is so important, that you absolutely need to inform your ecommerce customer in a matter of several minutes, that his or her order was received and allocated, and here you have your UPS or FedEx shipping tracking number with estimated delivery tomorrow morning (or in three to five business/calendar days).  If this about to be your situation, real time B2C and B2B ecommerce integration might be considered as required feature.  But what if you can wait, let’s say five or twenty minutes and send the batch of “order received” confirming emails to your ecommerce newcomers or returning customers?  If this is acceptable or even if this is optimal way of doing business, then you can schedule the integration and move shopping carts into Dynamics GP SOP transactions every few minutes (or maybe ten or even twenty minutes).  This scenario is quasi real time ecommerce integration, and you may consider implement it.  Now, let’s consider the case, when you are selling something really expensive and you do not expect more than a dozen shopping carts per business day.  When customer places the order, you may immediately trigger responding email, indicating that the order is received, and then you may run integration overnight or in the morning hours and at the end of the business day (twice per day, taking Saturday and Sunday as days off).  This scenario is integration on demand or scheduled integration

2. How each of the ecommerce shopping cart integration scenarios could be implemented with minimal cost?  We expect that you would guess – real-time integration is the most luxury approach and probably commands the highest implementation price.  And you are absolutely correct, real time requires eConnect custom programming (or such tools, as Order Connector, available from Alba Spectrum, where the set of SQL Stored procedures is more intuitive and doesn’t require SQL programmer to get exposure to eConnect objects and learning curve).  We do not recommend ad-hoc SQL programming (writing Stored Procedures with limited exposure to Dynamics GP table structure and data flow, Dynamics GP is mid-market Corporate ERP and MRP application and its data flow is pretty complex).  Let’s now move on to the customers, where you do not need real-time power and you would be quite happy with quasi real time shopping cart integration approach.  Here you may avoid custom programing phase and directly deploy such end user friendly tool as Dynamics GP Integration Manager.  IM could be scheduled to fire every certain number of minutes (maybe even every minute, but more realistically every five, ten, or twenty).  If your IT department has enthusiastic software developers and IT engineers, these people should find the way to schedule IM integration via Windows macro type of freeware applications.  Also, if you would like to get IM scheduling tool (for some cost) directly from Microsoft Business Solutions, it is also possible.  And now the third way – when you have limited number of ecommerce transactions per business day and you are ready to take the approach, when Dynamics GP user opens integration and runs it once or twice per day.  Our Dynamics GP consulting practice and our experience dealing with ecommerce integration requirements to Dynamics GP or historical Great Plains Dynamics indicates that that third scenario is the most common and fits to Dynamics GP ERP software niche

3. eCommerce product for Dynamics GP.  Microsoft Dynamics GP has so-called ISV partner channel, where you have add-ons to GP available from third party Integrated Software Vendors (usually Microsoft Gold Certified Partners who was granted the option to sell their products as extensions to native Microsoft Dynamics GP functional business logic).  When you are trying to take this route, please, be aware that add-ons are not supported directly from Microsoft Business Solutions and you might be required to pay annual enhancement fee to Dynamics GP ISV partner directly.  Well, when you are seeing Dynamics GP ISV ecommerce presentations, typically ecommerce add-ons or sometimes “ecommerce turnkey solutions” may require switching to their ecommerce platform (versus offering just ecommerce shopping cart connectors).  And the tradeoff (abandoning your existing legacy ecommerce website versus picking the product that offers just the connectors for your existing ecommerce shopping carts in productions, such as Magento/MySQL/Linux/PHP, ASP.Net Storefront) – this is where we recommend you to be especially careful

4. Alba Spectrum Ecommerce module.  Yes, Alba Spectrum Corporation is also in Dynamics GP ISV channel and we have the offer, which in our opinion is reasonably flexible and allows you to save cost on ecommerce shopping cart integration.  In drop down list we suggest you to select your existing ecommerce shopping cart platform (Magento, ASP.Net Storefront to name a few)

5. To request further support, please call us 1-866-528-0577, help@albaspectrum.com We need to discuss your cards in order to recommend you the best solutions, which is not contingent to our preferences.  We serve you USA/Canada nationwide via remote support (web sessions and phone/Skype conferences).  Local service is available in Western Michigan, Chicagoland, Southern California (LA, Orange County, San Diego), Houston area of the state of Texas

Best Online Shopping Cart?

Monday, March 14th, 2011

Question by Andrew: Best Online Shopping Cart?
So, I design blogs, and the standard is to pretty much use WordPress and manipulate it to fit what you need.I want to start an ecommerce site and sell products, but I’m finding it very hard to find the “ecommerce” equivalent of WordPress. I am experienced with HTML, CSS, and WordPress, and I’m trying to use the wp-e-commerce plugin, but it is very limited. I HATE Magento and Zen Cart, and wanted to know what alternatives there were, free AND paid. I can look around myself, but it feels like there’s hundreds and since they take a little bit of investment, I’m just worried about investing in a cart that isn’t the best to work with in the sense that 1) I can change the design entirely to a custom template I make in Photoshop, and 2) I can easily implement functionality that the cart has anywhere. (For example, in WordPress if I need to have certain articles appear in a certain place, it’s very easy to just write a loop and pull the content I need. I would love that if I could find a shopping cart that I could make look however I wanted, and could easily implement functionality.)If anyone could point me not just to ANY cart, but one that has a lot of references if I get stuck (like if I get stuck with WordPress, I can just go to the codex and millions of forums). Thanks!

Top 4 Ecommerce Solutions for the Holiday Season

Monday, June 28th, 2010

Are you counting the days till Christmas? Does the holiday season mean anything to your business? If your answer is yes, then probably you have done your share of research on ecommerce solutions to improve the Yuletide appeal of your online store. Days are coming by fast and merchants are soon ringing the proverbial cash registers for end-of-the-year profit. If you’re running out of time and need a quick fix before online shoppers hit the checkout line, make sure you got four essential elements of your ecommerce store decked out!

ECOMMERCE WEB HOSTING

Online merchants are usually attacked during the holiday shopping deluge on their weakest point. They may be well equipped with an ecommerce merchant account, efficient shopping cart, a wacky website design, and all the caboodle but when traffic picks up, their stores can’t handle it anymore. You, however, can:

*Test your ecommerce store for maximum traffic and fastest loading times it can handle.

*Make sure the bandwidth is sufficient and your store doesn’t completely depend on your server.

*Have your store open 24/7 — customer service and all.

ECOMMERCE WEB SITE DESIGN

Just as you would in a flea market, the more attractively you present your goods on display, the more online visitors are likely to buy. Excellent design means good taste and convenience. You may have your site dolled up with Flash and high-res images but if it took five minutes for a BCBG dress in a different color to load, forget it. Your ecommerce solution should be to:

*Spruce up your site with attractive but fast loading images

*Put categories for gender, age, interests, etc.

*Emphasize the discounts and freebies. (Ex. free shipping)

ECOMMERCE SHOPPING CART

‘Nuff said about shopping cart abandonment. Even though a lot of ecommerce solution experts have discussed preventive measures, people inevitably find a way to quit shopping on an ecommerce store halfway. If you’re smarter, you should look at the essential details that your customers need such as:

*Shipping schedule, cutoff dates, deadline for ordering

*Product page information: price, shipping, availability

*Policies and payment methods you accept

ECOMMERCE MERCHANT ACCOUNT/CREDIT CARD PROCESSING

As my conclusion draws near, you probably would have noticed that all the elements in the truly prepped holiday ecommerce store are related to each other. Your web design meshes with your hosting capabilities; your shopping cart is tied up to your ecommerce merchant account features. Your ecommerce solution to getting people to finally reach past the checkout line requires you to:

*Offer alternative payment methods other than credit card

*Take into account real time reporting and statements

*Make sure your credit card processing system is secure from fraud

There are more ecommerce solutions than I have covered in this article so keep on reading for my updates!

Shopping From An Online Drugstore Is The Way Of The Future

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Are you tired of having to drive so many miles to the store to purchase health and beauty products? Then find out once you get to the local pharmacy, the product that you specifically drove there for is either not in stock or the pharmacy does not even carry it anymore. Plus the prices of gas are so insane that sometimes you are spending more money than you should on the product. You might want to consider another option that will not only save you money but make your life a whole lot less stressful when it comes to shopping for health and beauty products.

There is another solution to this type of problem and that is try shopping at an online drugstore. There are so many benefits to shopping at one of these online pharmacies and also there is not the hassle of fighting crowds or having to fight for a parking spot. Another benefit is you can actually save a more money by shopping at an online drugstore. These online drugstores will even ship the product you buy overnight depending on the availability of the product. If you are lucky some of these stores may even pay for the shipping for you. There are many different products you can purchase at an online drugstore that you can’t purchase in a local store.

The online pharmacy business has grown so much in the past 5 years that no matter what type of item you need you are bound to find it. You may be searching for eye stye treatment. No local store has it because it has been discontinued or the local stores were not selling enough of it so they stop selling it. You may be searching for organic aromatherapy oils to help relieve your stress from a hard day work and can’t find them in the local stores. Try an online drugstore. You will be surprised how much items you can purchase that you didn’t even know existed.

If you can’t find the item you need to ask the online pharmacy to see if they will be able to find it for you. Most online drugstores stock anything from facial skin care products to pain medications.

Some places even have vitamins for sale that you don’t need a prescription for. Others have many different named brand cleansers such as biore face wash. There are so many items that you can purchase online that you can’t purchase at the local stores. Reason being is because when a product is not selling enough the company will not stock it anymore. Reason is because it is not making them any money. The distributer will then take these products and sell them at a discounted price just to get rid of the product rather than throw away money. There are many great deals from shopping online.

Now these online pharmacy have become so advanced that they can even fill out certain prescriptions for you. Imagine not having to wait in line to fill a prescription but taking care of it from the comfort of your own home.

Trying to find facial skin care products at a discounted rate? Search for all your health and natural skin care products needs at a online pharmacy .
